Bringing his extensive knowledge and expertise in global consultancy and conscious capitalism to the table, Steve will be building on the solid foundation and momentum that PTC has enjoyed under the guidance of its previous CEO and co-Founder, Philomena Blees – who will be maintaining her role as Board Chair and President of the organization.
As an accomplished leader with a track-record of organizational growth and helping some of the world’s largest companies experience transformational changes in their global impact, Steve brings a unique mix of leadership, inspiration, operational experience, performance coaching and passion-based purpose. Working closely with the board, staff and our supporters, Steve is making plans to deepen and broaden PTC’s role in providing thought leadership and program innovation in peacebuilding. We are grateful for his unique skillsets and personal alignment that perfectly exemplifies PTC’s vision: to create a world of evolving consciousness and peace for all.
Steve recently retired after serving 13 years as CEO of JMJ Associates – the largest transformational consultancy in the world. Serving the energy, mining, metals, manufacturing and construction industries, Steve consulted with top-tier companies to help them operate at higher levels of consciousness and improve performance while benefiting their people, the environment and the communities they worked in. During his tenure as CEO, he helped companies take the lead in evolving their own industries, radically challenging the notions of what businesses can make possible for humanity and the world. This experience directly aligns with PTC’s goals of highlighting the important role business and entrepreneurship play in multi-sector approaches to peacebuilding.
Through Steve’s leadership, JMJ became a world leader in Incident and Injury-Free®workplace safety consulting and helped create High Performance Teams™ on capital projects. Additionally, under his guidance, JMJ consultants provided Performance Coaching™ and leadership development to some of the largest companies in the world. Steve helped JMJ attract an incredible community of committed, talented employees in 10 offices in 38 countries on 5 continents, along with satellite offices in strategic locations with the capability to deliver the work in 28 languages to numerous cultures.
Prior to Steve’s 20 year period at JMJ, he utilized his Chemical Engineering Degree working in the Chemical Industry for 20 years, holding various positions from Plant Manager to Director of Quality for Fortune 500 Companies. Steve and his wife, Eileen McPhillips Portner (PTC Board Member and long-time advocate), live in Austin, Texas. Steve also serves on the Board of the Central Texas Food Bank and the W Austin HOA Board, as well as serving the Red Cross as a Disaster Relief Volunteer.
