The 2017 Nobel Peace Prize Forum Oslo, “Across Dividing Lines”, addressed indigenous rights within the context of social justice and environmental protection. 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as well as the 25th anniversary of Dr. Rigoberta Menchu Tum receiving the Peace Prize for her work with indigenous peoples’ rights.

The 2017 Forum sought to provide a platform for dialogue and sharing of experiences for representatives of the Standing Rock conflict in the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota, US, and the Nussir copper mine conflict in the municipality of Kvalsund, Norway.

Through analyzing the proceedings of the Forum through the lens of our innovative Matrix of Peace Whole Systems Model, Peace Through Commerce identified openings for action and opportunities to further peacebuilding around the issues raised.  Read the press release for the event. The 2017 Forum Oslo was broadcast to a global audience via streamed live online: nobelprize.org and on Youtube:
